The Girl in the White Cape

The girl in the white cape
and her grandmother’s blessing
walks past the wolf hiding under a tree
as she daydreams about the tall dark stranger
who carries all of his possessions on his back,
while the thinker ponders the cry
of the lone snag in the wild
and the dust devil zigzags
at the foot of the tower
where the couple exchanges vows
as their ancestors look on.

Segue to the pair walking up
a seemingly never-ending hill,
a chocolate cloud overhead,
a petri dish of potential death underfoot.
