The sow looks through her fence made of living posts
at the couple strolling under the arbor beside the tree goddess,
where long ago a big-headed devil of a dinosaur roamed a land
later inhabited by bears and ground squirrels.
Light streams through branches
next to shadowy faces and shimmering leaves
surrounding Gaia’s robust body.
The heart’s peace settles in alongside a silence
punctuated by sighs and gasps and whispers
and the minute murmurings and bubblings
of cells growing and dividing ad infinitum.
